Northern Thai Cuisine

Thai cuisine has been influenced by its neighboring countries such as Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and even China for many centuries. Northern Thai food is different from the dishes you've probably had at your local Thai restaurants in your home country. Many northern Thai dishes are similar to food found in the Shan State in Burma, northern Laos and the Yunnan region in China.

The food of the north is also influenced by the region' s mountain valleys and its cool, rainy climate. A typical northern Thai meal includes warm sticky rice, chili dips, pork dishes, vegetables and fried food. The good news is most northern Thai dishes are less spicy than those of other regions in Thailand.
